Knight Master

After choosing my genre's (Shoujo, action, fantasy, horror and si-fi) I decided to base my anime around a supernatural organization whose members can travel between worlds.

The Knights:

Based off the idea of there many different worlds the co-exist

Anime

Anime is the name used for Japanese animated TV shows and has a distinctive style different to western cartoons, it started in the 20th centenary and over time has developed many different genre's and art styles.

Anime can be divided into two main genere's depending on target audience; shoujo (teenage girl's anime/girls anime) and shounen (teenage boy's anime/boys anime). There are also other genre's for example josei (which is aimed at adult females) but sometimes this is still categorised as shoujo since the term is used far more generally in anime now.

Anime genre's aren't much different to book or film genre's except in what there called and most of the time you'll find a mixture of three or more genre's for one anime series.

Action: Probably the most popular genre, mostly aimed at boys but there a lot of action shoujo anime's.

Adventure: Usually aimed at boys, these anime are pretty self explanatory

Fantasy: Traditional fantasy anime aren't very popular at all but a lot of anime have fantasy aspects, especially magic.

Mahou Shoujou/Magical Girl: Very popular with young girls, these anime are usually based around a schoolgirl who gains magical powers by saving some magical creature and go on to defend the world.

Slice-of-life: Usually comedy, these anime are based around the daily activity's of a girl/boy

Comedy: Not very serious at all.

Mecha: These anime are usually about giant human shaped robots (like transformers) and are very popular with boys.

Si-fi: Usually aimed at boys and is mostly used alongside mecha.

Romance: Almost very shoujo anime has some romance in it.

Horror: These anime are usually aimed at a older audience then others and can range from slight creepiness to bloody murder scenes.

I have decided to make my anime a Shoujo action fantasy with si-fi aspects because these are my favourite kind of genre's.

Title: Anime series

What does it involve?

Website design, Animation (trailer), writing (synopsis), drawing, character design

Outline:

In this project I aim to create a concept for an anime series to be aired weekly on TV, I also aim to storyboard a trailer for it. The average anime series can range from 10 to 100 episode’s so I need to decide on the length of the series to fit with the plot, not too long to drag it out or too short to cut out important parts of the story. I also need to decide on the genre, art style, plot, characters and so on, I also need to design a fitting website for it as well as a trailer that showcases the plot and characters well to grab the watchers attention.

Timescale:

Week 1: Plan plot, design characters, write synopsis, work out quick episode plan

Week 2: Plan trailer, start work on storyboard

Week 3: Storyboard

Week 4: Storyboard

Week 5: Storyboard

Research:

Animation styles, genre’s, art styles, character’s, plots

Production:

Trailer, Episode guide, synopsis, website, character profiles
